weird observation about the LinkedIn algorithm

Really interesting observation about LinkedIn's organic reach

Take a look at these 2 posts...

Both had similar engagement. (Actually, the first one had MORE.)

So why did the second post get 10X the views?

Because the LinkedIn algorithm has changed.

Massively.

Here's what I learned. This comes directly from LinkedIn executives...

Engagement used to be EVERYTHING.

Not anymore.

Now LinkedIn prioritizes 3 things:

1. Relevance
They analyze your connections, past interactions, and topics you engage with.

2. Expertise
They want credible knowledge, real insights, and experience.

3. Engagement
This dropped from #1 to #3. Still matters, but way less than before.

I was getting frustrated for MONTHS.

"Why am I getting hundreds of likes and comments... but my posts aren't being sent out?"

Now I get it.

LinkedIn wants tactical advice.

Not engagement bait. (there was a lot of this!)

So here's what this means for your content:

If you want NEW eyes on your content:
Make it tactical and educational. Share
how-to content. Give actionable steps.

If you want to nurture your existing audience:
Go with story-driven, inspirational content. Build that deeper connection.

Both have their place.

But now you know which one to use when.

And of course, once you get those new eyes...

You need to know how to capitalize on them.

But that's for another day.

More to come... 😉

3 years ago today, I was in a pretty dark place 100 pounds overweight. Emptying my 401k just to cover the mortgage. Stressed beyond belief because I was failing to provide for my family. So naturally, I did what any rational person would do... I quit my job. I moved my family across the country and went all-in on myself. Everyone thought I'd lost it. (Including my parents) But here's what happened next: I built a $700k solo business (zero employees) Dropped 100 pounds Took my first family...

3 years ago, my friend Alana's mom passed away unexpectedly. And her business was dying too. Then she did something most "experts" say NEVER to do... She shared it all publicly. I know what you're thinking, that sounds a little dangerous? Most experts would recommend that you keep it professional and definitely don't bring your personal mess to LinkedIn. But here's what they DON'T tell you... Alana built one of the most memorable brands on LinkedIn doing exactly this. There's a catch, though,...

As much as it pains me to say this… I’m pressing pause on vertical video on LinkedIn. The keyword here is “vertical.” For the time being, I’m going ONLY to post landscape videos for LinkedIn. And yeah, this is a big deal for me. I built my ENTIRE brand and business doing vertical video on LinkedIn. So why am I doing this? Unfortunately, LinkedIn has some serious UX problems with vertical video. Let me explain… First, let me show you the data. I ran an experiment with my last 20 videos. 10...
