$300K in 1 year

Reader, it took me 7 months of posting every single day before I landed my first client.

In the last year, my one-person business has pulled in over $300,000.

And now, I’m trying something new, something I’ve seen work some magic for other brands.

Building in public.

If you’ve been following brands like Mid-Day Squares or founders like those behind Trello and Kit, you’ve seen it in action.

They let their audience in on the process, sharing the wins, the mistakes, and everything in between.

It’s not about putting up a perfect front.

It’s about being transparent, inviting people into your journey, and letting them see the reality of building something from scratch.

This approach does three things:

  1. Builds Trust Through Transparency: When you share both the highs and the lows, people see you as a real human, not just another business. It’s easier to root for someone when you see them putting in the work.
  2. Creates Deeper Connections: When people see your process, they feel like they’re a part of your story. They want to see how it all plays out, and that investment turns casual followers into fans who are actually excited about what you’re building.
  3. Encourages Engagement: Sharing in public makes it easier for others to chime in with their thoughts, ideas, and feedback. And that engagement creates a feedback loop that can help you refine your approach faster than going at it alone.

Recently, I shared a big goal: $150K in sales by the end of Q4.

And I’m letting you in on the journey.

Each step, each challenge, each small win.

It’s nerve-wracking, but it’s also the most genuine way to build something that resonates.

In a podcast episode I listened to recently, Kane Kallaway shared the billion-view blueprint for video content:

  • Master Storytelling: It’s all about creating curiosity loops and hooking people in from the start. The goal is to open a curiosity loop and get your audience to go down the rabbit hole.
  • Dial in Your Editing Rhythm: Video pacing is everything—keep it snappy and engaging.
  • Find Your Unique Angle: Don’t just recycle what everyone else is saying. Put your own spin on it.

(Last link in the 'That's Dope' section below).

And these principles aren’t just for video, they apply to everything you do in business.

And when you combine them with the transparency of building in public, it becomes a powerful way to grow.

So, if you’re thinking about building your own audience or sharing your process more openly, here’s what I’ve learned so far:

  1. Be Real, Not Perfect: People connect with you when they see your humanity. Share the wins, but don’t be afraid to share the challenges, too.
  2. Create Conversations, Not Broadcasts: Don’t just post and ghost—spend time in the comments, send voice DMs, and get to know your audience. The more you engage, the more opportunities will find their way to you.
  3. Keep Showing Up: It took me 7 months to get my first client. Most people quit way before they see results. Consistency is the secret sauce, even when it feels like nothing’s happening.

That’s it for this week.

I’ll be sharing more behind-the-scenes updates on my LinkedIn and in these newsletters, so stay tuned if you’re curious to see how this experiment plays out.

Peace! ✌🏼

I have a terrible confession. I am sitting on an absolute goldmine. And I’ve been keeping this from you for over a year now. Lying to you, lying to my clients, lying to everyone. So, here it goes… Every week, I interview high-level experts for their video content. CEOs, founders, marketing experts, sales leaders, you name it. PHEW. Okay, got that off my chest. Now that monkey’s off my back, let me tell you more… As you probably know, I ask them questions, help them share their expertise, and...

Last week, I dropped a podcast with Robb Gilbear, a multi-six-figure business coach who's mentored over 400 entrepreneurs. The goal of my podcast isn't the podcast itself, but the clips that result from it. But let me tell you where I went wrong with Robb. I had just come across a great video framework, and I was set on using it. But the problem is that Robb is a super creative guy. And we ended up boxing in his creativity by trying to put him into this rigid framework. We kinda struggled...

Let’s get one thing straight: hooks are important. There’s no shortage of content these days. If your posts don’t grab attention immediately, people scroll right by. But here’s what I’ve been noticing… The hooks we’ve been taught to use? They’re not working anymore! You know the ones: “Here’s the secret to 10x your revenue on LinkedIn.” “Double your leads with one phrase?” “7 hacks to stop the scroll.” These are manufactured. Formulaic. Obvious. And honestly… people are kinda tired of them. I...
