The problem with most video content

Today, I'm sharing my proven 5-step framework for a video strategy that has netted millions in revenue for me and my clients without millions of followers or paid ads.

Let's get into it!

(If you prefer to watch this as a video click here.)

You probably already realize video is a great way to grow your business, and you're feeling the pressure to jump into it this year.

So you started filming.

But you never really had a clear strategy.

You feel like you're winging it, hoping something sticks.

Spoiler alert: it doesn’t.

Now you’ve wasted a bunch of time creating random videos that don’t align with your audience’s needs or goals.

Let me ask you...

How close are you to quitting and writing off video as a failed experiment altogether?

Before you answer, I want to tell you a story:

In the summer of 2022, I quit my sales job.

I knew I would need to attract customers for my coaching business ASAP, so I went all-in on creating organic video content.

I started posting my videos on LinkedIn, and even with just 2,000 followers, I got tons of DMS. All founders and solopreneurs asking me how they could use video to attract clients.

Since I did hundreds of interviews as a podcaster, I thought, "could I apply those skills to help people create videos?"

The answer is yes.

So, I dropped the coaching and started a done-for-you remote video agency.

Since then, in just 2 years, I have helped over 100 founders and companies create thousands of videos and drive millions of revenue with organic video content on LinkedIn.

When you create with intention, you build trust, showcase your expertise, and spark curiosity about your offers…

You can generate a shit ton of business organically without paid ads or cold outreach.

Let's get into what you came for - the steps!

Step 1: Pick Your Theme

Every great video strategy starts with a clear, consistent theme. Why? Because your audience needs to know what you stand for and what they can expect from you.

I’m borrowing this term from a friend.

Your theme is the North Star for all your content.

Couple of examples:

  • Mine is to monetize your video content without being an influencer.
  • Ken is grow your business without big payrolls.
  • Alli is to get high-ticket clients with a small LinkedIn audience.

Without a theme, your content will feel scattered. With one, your audience knows exactly why they should follow you - and they’ll stick around.

Step 2: Understand the Purpose

You can’t treat every video the same. Each piece of content should serve one of three purposes:

  1. Educate: Teach your audience something valuable that showcases your expertise. This lets them know you know your shit!
    • For a website designer: Start off with something like, "3 quick design tweaks that instantly make your website look more professional" – Share actionable tips like improving font hierarchy, aligning elements, and using a cohesive color palette.
  2. Connect: Share stories and experiences that build trust and relatability. This is why people will choose you over the next guy
    • For a fitness coach, "I was out of shape before becoming a trainer..." – Talk about your transformation and how it helps you connect with clients on a deeper level.
  3. Sell: Share client success stories or behind-the-scenes into your process. This sparks curiosity about your services.
    • For a social media strategist, "How we helped a local bakery double their revenue in 3 months using TikTok" – Break down the strategy, show before-and-after analytics, and invite viewers to learn more about your services.

When you align your videos with these three goals, people will know, like, and trust you and eventually feel comfortable enough to raise their hands and reach out to you.

Step 3: Research!

This is where most people skip ahead. Big mistake! Do your research.

Look at what your audience is already engaging with.

  • Start with your sales conversations. What questions do your clients keep asking? What are their big challenges? What is their dream outcome?
  • Dive into platforms like YouTube, TikTok, or LinkedIn. What topics are trending? What formats are capturing attention?
  • Check out competitors in your niche. What’s working for them, and how can you do it better?

I know my audience here on LinkedIn loves case study-style videos because every time I post one I get 200 likes and a ton of engagement.

But I also know that BTS videos of my film session always generate tons of leads.

So, I use these formats over and over! Because they are proven to work.

When you research, you stop guessing and start creating content that always hits the mark.

(I’m going to go a level deeper on research in the next email and show you exactly how I do it for myself and my clients.)

Step 4: Brainstorm Topics

So far we’ve been doing all planning and research so now it’s time for action.

Take your main niche and start breaking down all the relevant topics for you to talk about…

For me, my main topic is video, so I can talk about…

Camera confidence, Filming tips like lighting, hooks, research, editing… the list goes on

Having a list of go-to topics that you can refer back to when you're stuck will ensure that you never run out of content ideas.

No more staring at the screen, wondering what the hell to talk about.

Step 5: Choose Your Formats

Your topics are locked in, now it’s time to decide how to present them.

The key is to mix it up so your content stays fresh. But also repeat the ones that work!

It would be pretty stupid of me to stop posting BTS videos when I know they generate leads every time.

Putting It All Together

Now this where is all comes together. One topic can easily become multiple pieces of content.

And since you have multiple topics and multiple formats you basically have endless possibilities.

This is how you multiply your content without multiplying your workload.

And because your videos are:

• Tied to a theme

• Serve a clear purpose

• Speak directly to your audience’s needs

They’ll attract the right clients and turn them into leads.

Creating a video strategy doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact,

Now it’s your turn: pick one topic, choose a format, and hit record. Keep it simple.

Start today.

A while back, I worked with a founder who was spending hours trying to create video content for LinkedIn. Three days a week, he’d sit down, open a blank doc, and try to come up with ideas. Sometimes he’d get one video out.Other times, nothing. Then, he’d scroll LinkedIn and see people posting videos daily - and they were actually getting engagement. “I feel like everyone else has this figured out,” he told me. Sound familiar? It's hard not to get down on yourself when you feel like this...

Over the last four years, I’ve posted over 3,000 videos on social media. Even though I was resistant, I got started because I knew I couldn't build the brand and business I wanted without putting myself out there. Writing posts and designing carousels was good. But seeing someone’s face, hearing their voice, and feeling their energy—that’s what truly connects people. Here are my four biggest lessons: Lesson 1: Quantity Leads To Quality I used to overthink every video, but the truth is—the...
